Submitting an Article for Consideration
Concrete Construction publishes information for concrete contractors, general contractors, design engineers, and architects who are heavily involved in construction practices, design, and material selection. We publish stories about comprehensive business solutions for concrete professionals involved in both commercial and residential applications. We stress new ideas behind the faces, new ways to be more profitable, new markets for the concrete construction markets, and new technologies.
We welcome submissions from our readers and industry practioners that provide information on what’s in the future for our market, and how they have helped construct projects.
If you have a particular expertise and would like to serve as a background source, a quotable source, or have a major innovative project or article ideas, please contact the editor.
General Guidelines
Send us your idea in the form of an abstract or outline (about 75 words), explaining specifically what you plan to cover. Please contact us in advance to make sure the subject is something we will be featuring in the magazine. We generally work about three months ahead of our publication date. Refer to a copy of the editorial calendar found in the media kit.
Include information about the author, including a short biography, and contact information (including phone and e-mail).
Our feature articles are typically 1500 to 2500 words in length, and include several high-quality photographs and/or drawings.
The article must be exclusive to Concrete Construction magazine. We require all authors to sign agreements. A copy of the agreement will be sent upon assignment or approval.
Articles should not be product specific. Proprietary materials, equipment, and products can be mentioned, but not directly promoted. We encourage authors to cover general information about projects, industry trends, or product categories.
We may decide to share the information with our readers via the website, or in our monthly e-newsletter. If an article is applicable to another Hanley Wood publication, we may pass the idea on to the appropriate editor.
Submitting Material
There are a few things to keep in mind when developing your idea and preparing the final manuscript.
Allow enough preparation time and review.
All submitted material will be edited, to fit our style and space requirements. Editing can be significant, but authors will have the opportunity to review the final manuscript.
It is best to submit materials electronically via e-mail, CD, or DVD. Articles should be in MS Word format and illustrations or photos in a high-resolution format (like .jpg).
Image Requirements
Final artwork can include high-resolution electronic files, glossy photos, or transparencies.
Digital files. Images should be at least 266 dpi, in .jpg or .tif format, and at least 4x6 in. in size. Files also should be in 4-color, CMYK format.
Photographs. Do not staple or paperclip photos, since this may damage the image. Do not write on the back of photos, but instead attach a post-it note to the back of the photo with identifying information.
Complimentary Copies
Authors will automatically receive a copy of the issue or issues in which their article appears. Additional reprints are available after publication through The YGS Group. All reprints are custom made, and prices vary.
