Operating a 1.7-million-square-foot automobile manufacturing plant with 1500 employees requires a big parking area for both employees' and visitors' cars. At the new Honda Manufacturing of America plant, now under construction in Lincoln, Ala., the vehicle parking area will be 61 acres, including car parking areas, access roadways, and traffic areas at the plant's periphery to accommodate delivery trucks. Plant construction broke ground in 2000, with manufacturing scheduled to begin by early 2002. At this $440-million facility, Honda will prefabricate auto parts and assemble automobiles and engines. The plant is being built on a 1350-acre company-owned tract, so there is plenty of room for expansion.
