New minority certifications mean expanded business opportunities for one City-based business.

Atlantic Supply Corporation, a Baltimore City-based supplier of concrete construction and traffic safety products, is now a certified Asian-owned Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE), along with having the distinction of being a U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) HUBZone Small Business Concern.

These recent approvals add to Atlantic Supply’s growing list of minority business certifications, including Baltimore City (Asian-owned) Minority Business Enterprise, Maryland Small Business Reserve (SBR), and Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority Local Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (LDBE).

Atlantic Supply is also submitting Department of Transportation minority certification applications to the District of Columbia, Delaware, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. Those approvals are expected in the next quarter.

“The construction supply world is a highly fragmented market consisting of a number of large and medium sized distributors, very few of which are minority owned,” said President & CEO Abhi Singh. “We are a service-driven business that can compete with the largest firms from a pricing perspective, while providing the high quality service and personal relationships that can only be found in a familyowned supply house. We are excited our customers can use their current spend on materials to meet project-based minority inclusion goals. This creates a win-win scenario for all by increasing minority participation, while simultaneously lowering overall project costs.”

City, state and federal government funded projects often require specific inclusion goals for minorityowned businesses. This is particularly true for transportation projects, one of Atlantic Supply’s primary areas of focus.

As a full-service construction materials supplier, Atlantic Supply has strong vendor relationships with a growing number of market-leading manufacturers. Its broad product line portfolio focuses on underground utilities, concrete accessories and traffic safety.

Raised in Akron, Ohio, Singh is an Asian Indian-American with more than 12 years of experience with national construction supply companies, being recognized for his leadership and achievements in finance, operations, and sales management. He assumed leadership of Atlantic Supply in 2010.

The two year old company finished 2011 with more than $1 million in sales and projects to double its growth this year. An online catalog and additional company background can be found at
