What started as a small waterproofing contractor business in 1915, has now become a nationally recognized masonry and concrete restoration firm. “After the engineering profession perfected the steel skeleton frame design for constructing high-rise buildings in the 1920s, every city across the country was competing to have the tallest building,” says CEO Benjamin Bishop Jr. In response, Western diversified its business in 1929 to offer services such as structural repairs, concrete replacement, and concrete restoration services.

It’s no small feat to celebrate 100 years of business. Western attributes much of its success and longevity to its strong foundation, impeccable safety record, and a very strong financial position. “These strengths provide our clients with the security of knowing Western will be around as long as their structures will be,” says Bishop.

Western celebrated its momentous centennial this year and to mark the occasion, it unveiled a new name, logo, and tagline. Western Construction Co., its 30-plus branches, and member companies are now known as Western Specialty Contractors: Confidence through Performance.

Whether it’s through organic growth or acquisitions, the company looks for constant growth opportunities. Making solid investments in technology is one way Western stays successful.

Its success, however, extends beyond the facades of the buildings it restores. “For 100 years, we have focused on our employees and our clients as well as the innovations and changes in the industry. Without great people, we would not be able to do great work,” says Bishop. Western plans to continue making its customers and employees a priority as it leads the way for the next 100 years.
