The Common Ground Alliance (CGA) recently launched a new national “Call Before You Dig” Web site. The resource will serve as a great portal for construction professionals to access crucial jobsite information. The Web site, , features an online tips and tools forum to share best practices across the digging industry, along with free campaign materials to educate your workforce.

“Knowing where utility lines are buried before each digging project helps protect those who dig from injury, expense, and penalties,” says CGA president Bob Kipp.” Our new Web site will provide the professional digging community with the tools they need to begin educating their employees and customers about the new national 811 number to launch later this year.” The FCC-designated 811 “Call Before You Dig” telephone number is planned to launch to the public May 2007.

The CGA estimates that there were about 680,000 underground line strikes resulting in damages, including service outages and injury, according to industry data in 2004. For more on CGA, visit
