The Epoxy Interest Group of Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute, Schaumburg, Ill., released a report on the performance of epoxy-coated bars in West Virginia. This study found that although the black bar decks were overlaid or otherwise rehabilitated after only 18 to 21 years to address deterioration of the deck surface, decks containing epoxy-coated reinforcing steel had not required repair after 33 years and the studied decks were in good to excellent condition. No delaminations were observed in decks containing both upper and lower mats of epoxy-coated reinforcing steel, despite high chloride contents in the concrete. The brochure is available free at under the publications tab or by contacting the Epoxy-Interest Group.
