Steven H. Gebler, senior principal engineer, Materials Consulting Services, CTLGroup, died at home on June 22, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 61 years old.

Steve joined The Portland Cement Association's Construction Technology Laboratories Division (now CTL-Group) in 1979 as associate research engineer in the Concrete Materials Research Department. Before joining PCA/CTL, Steve had worked for Ameron Pipe Products in California, Interpace Corp. in New Jersey, and the Ohio Department of Highways. Steve earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Ohio State University and a M.S. in Civil Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey. He was a registered professional engineer in eighteen states and two Canadian provinces.

Steve was recognized nationally and internationally for his expertise with concrete, especially shotcrete. He was a Fellow of the American Concrete Institute and an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and ASTM International. In 2005 Steve received an Award of Excellence from the International Concrete Repair Institute.

Always willing to share his knowledge and experience, Steve was an enthusiastic mentor and an entertaining speaker, and was often sought after as a lecturer and presenter for PCA, at universities, and for professional organizations. Steve authored more than 40 publications.
