A 22-group coalition, that includes Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance and the Building Trade Employers' Association (BTEA) are seeking the maximum sentence for Harco Construction in their manslaughter conviction of a construction worker who died in a trench collapse. The district attorney's office recently submitted its sentencing recommendation and is seeking fines for felong and misdemeanor charges as well as Harco paying for a TV and print campaign to run this fall in English and Spanish to promote worker safety.

BTEA CEO Lou Coletti explained the reason for pursuing such harsh punishment:

“BTEA contractors are sick and tired of contractors like Harco defining the public perception of how serious and important public and worker safety is to them and the way they manage the thousands of construction projects they are responsible for in New York City,” CEO Lou Coletti wrote.
