Using concrete for building is a practice that dates back to the ancient Egyptians. Since then, concrete has seen many changes from the simple materials (water, aggregate, and cement) use to make it. Owner and president of Concreteworks in Mark Rogero and Tung Cheng, principle/CEO of Cheng Design are looking at transforming concrete. Both Rogero and Cheng are based in California where they are working on projects using concrete as vast as a bus shelter with topographical maps on it to bars and sinks at SoMa’s Bar Agricole.
Concrete in the 21st century is pliant and dynamic, able to take on vivid colors and textures and shapes unimaginable back when it was treated like cast stone.
