Pacific's Cinerama Theatre was built in 1963 in Hollywood, California. Cinerama's geodesic dome was the first one to be built of concrete. The geodesic dome consists of 316 concrete panels precast to extremely exact tolerances in hexagonal and pentagonal shapes measuring up to 10x12 feet in size. This required precasting 16 different sizes employing 35 different configurations of reinforcing steel. Eighty caisson piles placed 30 feet into the ground provide underpinnings for the theater's base, from which rises a 10-inch-thick concrete perimeter wall.
