The first step in finding a lawyer is determining what your needs are. Decide what you want your lawyer to be able to do for you. Another relevant factor is where your lawyer is located and what kind of fees he or she will charge. Once you have considered these factors, you need to acquire a list of lawyers or firms that can do what you need them to do. A competitor might be able to recommend someone, or the Yellow pages might be a good place to start. The Martindale-Hubbell legal directory, which can be found in many public libraries, and industry magazines are also good places to check. The next step is writing to each of the firms you may want to work with and requesting a statement of qualifications. Then review that information and select two or three firms to interview with. After interviewing the firms, interview a client or two from each before choosing the lawyer.
