Winter weather necessitates space heating on construction sites. Salamanders will provide the needed warmth, but they must be used with care. (1) Salamanders should not be used in confined or unventilated spaces unless vented t the outside. (2) Hazards exist form flames and sparks when solid fuel salamanders are used, and from glowing carbon deposits when improperly burning fuel oil salamanders are used. (3) Solid fuel salamanders should not be set directly on wood floors or other combustible supports. (4) Salamanders should be placed at least 10 feet away form the tarpaulins and canvas coverings. (5) Kerosene, gasoline, gas or oil fried heaters should be shut done and allowed to cool before they are moved or refueled.
