The Aqua Building Tops Off
In March, the 82-story, 874-foot-high Aqua Building in Chicago topped off its final floor. McHugh Construction Co., Chicago, completed placing concrete for the structural concrete mixed-use building which will include a hotel, condominiums, apartments, and retail space. Designed by Gang Studios, Chicago, the building's appearance is the result of wavy, undulating balconies, which are extensions of the building's floors and cast concurrently. No two balconies have the same shape, which was accomplished by using a computerized layout system. The original plan was a four day per floor construction cycle but it was changed to a three day cycle by using an alternative method for layout and forming of the balconies.
Bomanite Contractors Continue
Despite the recent financial problems of the Bomanite Co., the contractor franchises are still continuing as individually owned and operated companies. Bomanite contractors remain an effective and strong group of professionals installing products available for architectural concrete paving and flooring systems. Any questions regarding Bomanite should be directed to a local franchise or go to www.bomanite.com to find a contractor.
