CTS Cement Manufacturing Corporation | Rapid Set a leader in construction cement technology is pleased to announce that UCLA has established the Eric Pascal Bescher Endowed Scholarship in Materials Science at the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science. The award is in support of Dr. Eric P. Bescher and his myriad of contributions to the UCLA campus and the field of calcium sulfoaluminate (CSA).
CTS Cement believes that this scholarship will be instrumental in developing greater awareness of the unique characteristics of CSA cements and how they contribute to building a more sustainable and durable infrastructure.
“Eric is a leader in the development of long-life cementitious materials. His work on 100-year concrete, low shrinkage and early strength calcium sulfoaluminate is important for the future of our infrastructure. Eric’s focus on the lifecycle of pavement will help design better, longer-lasting highways and runways. For example, reducing the number of joints in pavement will increase life and sustainability,” says Ed Rice, Chairman of CTS Cement.
The applications of Eric’s work include larger concrete slabs for airports, which, by decreasing the number of linear feet of joints compared to traditional portland concrete, lower the cost of installation and maintenance of pavement.
This scholarship is meant to encourage future generations of students to follow in his footsteps and contribute to this important field.
