Upon your arrival at the airport, look for the new parking garage just north of Terminal 3. Topped out last summer, the eight-level, 6000-car parking structure spans approximately 270x1024 feet, enclosing about 2.3 million square feet. In addition to providing spaces for employee parking, valet parking, and both short- and long-term public parking, the project also includes construction of an 11,275-square-foot, single-level office building, toll plaza, and roadway for passenger pickup and dropoff. General contractor McCarthy Building Companies, Henderson, Nev., self-performed the concrete work, which included 126 post-tensioned structural deck pours and an additional 14 pours for the structure’s circular concrete helix entry ramp. McCarthy logged more than 300,000 man-hours on the concrete work, pouring enough concrete for a 4-foot-wide by 4-inch-thick sidewalk that would stretch from Las Vegas to Los Angeles. The project team maintained an aggressive schedule, pouring one deck every other day. Construction of the $121.7 million structure began in December 2008.
