One of the unique offerings in the new Concrete 101 track is the Concrete Placement & Consolidation Qualification Preparatory Seminar. This seminar will prepare participants to become a WOC Qualified Concrete Placement and Consolidation Worker. In this seminar, attendees will learn how to properly place and consolidate freshly mixed concrete for slabs on ground, foundations, columns, and walls. Preconcrete-placement inspection; how to deposit concrete on ground and in formwork; characteristics and application of internal and external vibrators; and proper techniques to vibrate slabs on ground, foundations, columns, and walls will be discussed. Also covered will be the consequences of improper vibration, which include honeycomb, bugholes, subsidence cracking, lift lines, and cold joints.
Attendees can increase their knowledge and credentials by becoming a WOC Qualified Concrete Placement and Consolidation Worker by taking the Concrete Placement & Consolidation Qualification Written/Performance Examinations after completing the required seminar. An open book written exam and field performance exam will be held later the same day. For the field performance exam, participants must demonstrate the proper use of an internal vibrator and a vibratory strike-off screed. All who score 70% or above on the written exam and pass the field performance exam will be awarded a WOC Qualified Concrete Placement and Consolidation Worker certificate.
