When RG Properties brought the Salmon Kings hockey team to Victoria in 2004, they also spawned the need for a new arena. Canadian grocer Save-On-Foods also provided support for the project and received naming rights for 10 years. As construction progressed, contractor Rada Resurfacing found it had to deal with voids of varying widths and depths between the precast concrete sections forming the steps and risers in the seating area. Rada used Mapei's Planitop X fast-setting repair mortar as a single solution to the problem because it can be used in vertical, horizontal, and overhead applications and can be applied in coverage from featheredge to 4 inches in one lift. Rada also used a fast-drying mortar, in layers as thin as 1/4 inch on an outdoor balcony that had to be sloped and drained.
