It’s the middle of summer, and we’re boiling here in the Midwest, as is much of the nation. So it might be hard to imagine how we will feel in the middle of winter, when the wind blows from the north and we are knee- or even waist-deep in snow.
But imagine, we must. It’s never too early to start thinking about World of Concrete (WOC), as we do here around our office. While the annual event takes place every January or February, preparations and planning go on year-round. The mid-winter meeting of the world’s largest trade show devoted to concrete construction takes place Feb. 5–8 in (usually) sunny Las Vegas; seminars begin Feb. 4.
Again next year, WOC is honoring the men and women who truly make concrete construction the dynamic industry that it is today. Of course, those are the crews. Crews that Rock 2013 will give your crew the recognition that it deserves.
You can enter the Community Service/Not-for-Profit category, which honors a project that your crew completed as a volunteer effort. The Commercial/For-Profit category honors a project on which your crew had unprecedented challenges which put its skills to the test. There will be two winners from each category: an Audience Award via online voting, and an Expert’s Choice Award selected by a panel of experts.
Winners will be flown to WOC 2013, receive complimentary hotel rooms, and free attendance for seminars. The deadline to enter is Nov. 30, which will arrive sooner than you think. So think about those entries. Visit www.worldofconcrete.com for more information about entering and about the show.
