In shotcreting, what is the best way to get the concrete to bond to the back layer of reinforcement? Aiming the nozzle at an angle from two different directions does not appear to work well.
When the steel closest to the nozzleman is being set it should be offset so that it is not directly in front of the back layer. This permits a clear shot at both layers. However, a still better system is to place one layer of steel, shoot the first coat of shotcrete, broom and wet the surface, set the second layer of steel, and then shoot a second coat.
