What is the best way to produce skid resistance in concrete highways?
Current practice for new pavement relies chiefly on producing a surface texture in the concrete by means of a burlap, wire, broom or other drag behind the paver that mechanically leaves longitudinal grooves. The roughened surface is very effective. Existing pavements can be improved in regard to skid resistance by longitudinal grooving with saws and grinders. This technique is becoming more and more efficient and widespread.
