We were faced with a limited time in which to apply patches to a concrete floor. Rather than spend a lot of time cleaning and preparing the surface we painted what was supposed to be a high quality epoxy adhesive onto the old concrete and applied fresh concrete over it. The patches came out within two months. Is there a restriction on how soon the concrete can be applied after painting on an adhesive?
The timing probably had nothing to do with it. The mistake appears to have been in not preparing the surface properly by cleaning and roughening. The use of high grade materials does not compensate for omission of this step. All contaminants must be removed and the surface roughened by sandblasting, water blasting or acid etching. Details are given in most instructions for repair with adhesives.
