Designers are looking for ways to reduce both construction and energy costs. Reducing the costs of fuel, maintenance, and insurance, while preserving greenery, privacy, light and air flow--all of these are entirely possible when concrete underground structures are built. "Ecology House" on Cape Cod is a prime example of this underground movement. Apartments in Florida; Terraset School in Reston, Va.; the University of Minnesota; and the Minnesota State Capitol are all looking for solutions to energy and ecological problems by building underground.
