Since its introduction to the construction industry in the 1950s, shotcreting has grown into an important and widely used concrete placement technique, and advances in materials, equipment, and procedures continue to expand its applications. Three of the most recent developments include:

  • A technique for producing exposed-aggregate finishes with wet-mix concrete
  • The use of synthetic fibers to boost the load-carrying capacity of wet-mix or dry-mix shotcrete
  • Successful placement of wet-mix shotcrete in members with heavily congested rebar
