In the dry-mix shotcrete process, dry blended mix materials are delivered through a line or hose to a nozzle, where water is added. There are two distinct types of dry-mix shotcrete equipment: single- and double-chamber pumps, and continuous-feed or rotary pumps which come in two types: barrel and feed bowl.

Two types of pumps usually are used for wet-mix shotcrete: pneumatic feed and positive displacement (including squeeze pumps and piston pumps).

To ensure safe working conditions, quality work, and efficient application, contractors may need to use auxiliary equipment, such as: water booster pumps, water heaters, air movers, communications devices, space heaters, blowpipes, fiber feeders and admixture dispensers.
