There will be several new outdoor events this year at the World of Concrete, including construction of safe rooms, self-leveling concrete, and a crane operators and riggers competition. Another is what we’re calling the Slab Construction Showcase. Fresh concrete will be poured each morning followed by demonstrations of the newest techniques contractors can use to form, place, and cure concrete flatwork. A couple of specific activities at the Slabs Showcase will be:

  • Creating a High-Gloss Concrete Slab without Polishing, sponsored by Multiquip—Polished slabs have become popular, but this demonstration will show how to place, power trowel, and cure a slab to create a serviceable, durable, and flat polished surface with equipment most concrete contractors already own.
  • How to Use a Roller Screed on a Curve, sponsored by Lura Enterprises—Placing concrete on a curve with a large radius can be difficult. Contractors often add finishers for the placement process to keep at desired rates. Using a roller screed can minimize crew size without sacrificing efficiency and helps ensure that the fresh concrete is struck off with minimum work.
