What can we do to keep prefabricated formwork from deflecting?
The most likely cause of deflection is placing the concrete too rapidly. It is cheaper to slow down the rate of placing than to add more wales and braces. With some prefabricated systems it is possible to remove panels in various locations to provide casting pockets which make it possible to introduce the concrete without dropping it so far. Deflection can also be caused by weak, wornout plywood that should be replaced.
