Q.: Do you advocate that parking garage decks be designed to protect against deicer attack even if they are enclosed? Is there enough dripping of salt water off of parked cars to cause trouble?

A.: Where salts are used as deicers on streets, large amounts of salt will be brought into parking garages. Even if no salt is purposely applied to the deck for deicing, a considerable amount of salt will accumulate in the concrete over a period of time unless something effective is done to protect the concrete against absorbing it.
