Like many contractors, we find ourselves involved more and more frequently in bidding jobs at a distance from our headquarters. Has anybody published area variation tables that would be useful for this purpose?
An annual publication, "Architects, Contractors and Engineers Guide to Construction Costs," prefaces its sections on Concrete, Masonry, Metals and Carpentry with location modifier tables covering 55 metropolitan areas with populations in excess of 500,000. The modifiers apply only to rates and not to productivity. The book for the most part conforms to the "Uniform System for Construction Specifications, Data Filing and Cost Accounting," and consequently leans somewhat toward computerized cost systems.
