A unique hand-set, aluminum slab-forming system designed for quick, safe installation and removal recently helped concrete formwork subcontractor Ceco Concrete Construction Corp., Kent, Wash., meet a tight eight-week schedule for construction of about 300,000 square feet of elevated office building slabs.

Designed to achieve fast production rates with minimal labor, the formwork consists of only a few proprietary aluminum components, none of which weighs more than 40 pounds. The system goes together like Tinker Toys and can be installed by only two people.

Ceco project manager Ron Vollmond says the ability to install all components by hand from below the slab results in a significant reduction in crane time and adds to the safety of the formwork assembly process.
