We are achieving some nice effects with plastic form liners that produce glossy decorative surfaces on parts of a lobby wall. We would like to do the same thing in an outdoor mall but have been told that the surfaces will not remain glossy if they are exposed to the weather. Is there any way to keep them glossy?
Glossy concrete surfaces do not weather well and it is true that they are likely to become dull before long. A thin, clear, nonyellowing durable coating would preserve the appearance. Acrylic coatings based on methyl methacrylate have been found by the Portland Cement Association to be generally satisfactory for protecting smooth surfaces though no coatings were rated excellent for this application. Careful application by spray might be best to obtain a uniformly thick coating. The coating would have to be renewed after some years.
