Can sandblasting be used for exposing large pieces of flat fieldstone in tilt-up panels?
This isn't normally done. Such panels are usually made by bedding the stone in sand for one-third to one-half their depth. It may be desirable to place concrete mortar in the joints just before concreting. The aggregate should be moistened with a fog spray before casting the concrete. In placing the concrete, care must be taken not to dislodge the embedded stones. After the panel has been cured, stripped and tilted into position, the sand is brushed or air blasted off the rock and out of the joints. A common method of ensuring good bond between the rock and the concrete is to coat the back surface of the rock with an epoxy bonding agent formulated for the purpose.
