A colleague recently reminded me of the old Saturday Night Live skits where Mike Myers plays Linda Richman on her show Coffee Talk. When Linda is trying to regain her composure, she pulls out words that don’t make sense and then says “Discuss!” In one episode with Helen Hunt, she says, “Talk amongst yourselves. I’ll give you a topic. Chickpea, neither a chick nor a pea. Discuss.” See it here.
I was trying to think of similar words in the concrete business that have a meaning other than their literal meaning , such as silica fume—not really a fume—discuss! Or troubleshooting, usually there’s no shooting involved. Or a boom pump—it doesn’t go boom (hopefully!).
Can you think of other words like this in concrete construction? Discuss!
