There seems to be wide agreement that even air-entrained concrete will scale if salt or other de-icing agents are applied in the first year. How, then, can new pavements, such as driveways, parking aprons and garage floors, be protected from the inevitable automobile drippings?
Protection for the first winter can be achieved by means of a surface treatment with a 1:1 mixture of boiled linseed oil and kerosene. The pavement should be dry and clean at the time of the application and at least 28 days old.
