The Kansas Department of Transportation (KsDOT) has developed an inexpensive and effective technique for repairing overstressed concrete girder bridges having shear cracks in the girders. Using a variation of the epoxy resin injection method of repairing delaminated bridge decks, the KsDOT developed a technique called "post reinforcement." It involves: 1) locating and sealing all of the girder cracks with silicone rubber; 2) marking the girder centerline on the deck; 3) locating the transverse deck reinforcement; 4) drilling 45-degree holes that avoid the rebars; 5) pumping the holes and cracks full of epoxy; and 6) inserting reinforcing bars into the epoxy-filled holes.
