Proper design and execution can make compaction grouting a reliable method for densifying loose soils and raising settled structures. Although it's a relatively simple concept, compaction grouting involves all the complexities of forensic engineering, soil mechanics, mix proportioning, grout rheology, specialized drilling techniques and pumping technology. This article, based on the author's 25 years of experience as a contractor in the industry, highlights what works and what doesn't, and describes how engineers and contractors can pool their talents to successfully complete compaction grouting projects.
