What is the normal thickness of a terrazzo floor topping?
The terrazzo itself is usually 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick and is placed on a 1 1/2-inch-thick bed of mortar. This mortar bed may rest directly on the base slab but frequently it is separated from it by a 1/4-inch cushion of sand or a layer of asphalt paper. Such a separation reduces the possibility of shrinkage cracks.
