What is the best paint or other material for traffic marking?
There is such a variety of materials that it is difficult to recommend any one. A good comparison of them is given, however, in "Pavement Traffic Marking" NCHRP Synthesis of Highway Practice 17, available for $3.60 plus five percent U.S. postage (10 percent foreign postage) from the Highway Research Boards 2101 Constitution Avenues Washingtons D.C. 20418. This report points outs however, that failures are often caused by inadequate preparation of the surface rather than from an inadequate paint. Surfaces that contain a laitance layers or waxbase curing compound. alkalies and salts leached from the fresh concrete, or dirt and grease will not hold the paint unless properly prepared .
