Using Tilt-Up for Salt Storage Saves Money

Road salt is usually stored in igloo-type wood-frame buildings that cost around $160,000 to build. In Kokomo, Indiana, though, the street department is using a building with tilt-up concrete walls to house road salt. Built last fall, the structure cost $105,000, including an 8-inch-thick concrete floor, and took only 60 days to construct. More
