A topping out ceremony was held for the completion of the concrete core for the 1,079 ft., $2.5 billion, 3 World Trade Center. The celebration was attended by hundreds of construction workers, public officials, business leaders and community members.
The ceremoney was emotional as many still remeber the 9/11 attacks. The new building is slated for opening in 2018 and for it's construction they are employing the concrete-first method:
“We have reached height with our concrete first and then we’ll reach height again with steel,” said Sean Johnson, vice president of Silverstein Properties.
Usually it’s the other way around.
“We save schedule and costs,” Johnson said.
