Lost Creek Dam, La Porte, Calif.

Hydrodemolition tool during water blasting sequence.

There is no access into the creek area below other than by foot and rope.

The design specifications required the contractor to remove all unsound concrete from the dam face and leave only concrete that was a minimum of 1,500 psi compressive strength.

Climbers had to bolt the robotic hydrodemolition tool to the dam face. Rope climbing proved to be the most efficient method for mounting the equipment because of the restricted access to the site.

The three-month long project was finished on July 21, 2015. A total of 13,000 cubic feet of concrete was removed using robotic hydrodemolition equipment specifically designed for vertical surfaces.
