Project of the Month: Cone-shaped Concrete Challenge

Hoffmann Inc. built three grain silos requiring a 58-foot conical pour.

A Honda power heads and gear box transmition are used to power the connected 20-foot, 12-foot, and 2-foot tubes.

Hoffman's crew work to complete the sloping, cone-shaped silos.

The crew nears completion with the help of the Lura Lightning Strike Roller screed.

A conical base is ideal for grain to flow freely, but placing concrete on a slope is a challenge because concrete also flows to the bottom. The concrete has to have a low slump just to keep it from sliding down.
