Virginia Smart Road

The entire Virginia Smart Road spans from Blacksburg, Va., to the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute research facility.

This aerial view shows the two new test areas: the 3000-ft.-long continuously reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) section and the 1200-ft.-long jointed plain concrete pavement (JPCP) section.

The 3000-ft.-long continuously reinforced concrete pavement section consisted of one half lane of 1/2-in. c-c groove spacing and the other with 3/4-in. groove spacing.

This closeup features the ground and groove texture from the continuously reinforced concrete pavement section.

The jointed reinforced concrete pavement (JRCP) was diamond ground.

This closeup shows the diamond ground test areas textures.

The test pavements were diamond ground.

Longitudinal grooving was completed on Section A after the diamond grinding.
