Baker Concrete Construction was awarded the 2008 Golden Trowel Award at this year's World of Concrete in Las Vegas. The award, presented by the Face Co., recognizes concrete contractors for installing "the flattest and most level floors in the world."
Baker received the award in the Special Category for the installation of the ZMax Dragway in Concord, N.C. The project required more than 55,000 square feet of concrete drag strip, and required an extremely smooth, and level surface.
"We're honored to receive the award this year," says Jim Hosea, operations manager at Baker. "The dragway was an exciting project that gave our guys a special challenge, and we're glad to be recognized."
Since the recognition began in 1989, Baker has won nine Golden Trowel awards, and two Silver Trowel Awards. The Face Companies are a family-controlled group of companies founded in Norfolk, Va. in 1867. Originally a contractor and brick manufacturer, Face has been in the construction industry throughout its 140-year history.
