Alistair Wells, concrete manager for BIM developer Tekla, recently wrote us about how concrete contractors are using BIM to increase productivity: The definition of BIM might be to share models to reduce costs, but the technology can benefit concrete guys even if they never share a model with another sub/GC/architect. The real productivity improvement is in how the model can benefit them internally, whether they are on a BIM job or not. In fact, much of the technology originated from precast concrete and structural steel companies that only used it to improve internal efficiency. With the growth of the BIM buzz, the average concrete/rebar company is overlooking this productivity because all they hear about is sharing models and clash resolution.
