When installing adhesive anchors, cleaning the drilled hole out is essential to getting the bond that the designer is expecting. Using either a vacuum or compressed air to blow out the dust means hauling around extra equipment and taking extra steps. But at Concrete Anchoring Live during the 2013 World of Concrete, Hilti demonstrated a new drill bit that allows the dust to be sucked out of the hole as it is being drilled. A plastic duct at the top of the bit connects to a vacuum and the dust is pulled up through the hollow bit. Hilti says no further cleaning is needed. Check it out, here.
