The American Concrete Pumping Association (ACPA) has produced a new video "INSIST ON IT" that encourages the use of certified operators when using or hiring a concrete pump. The ACPA has been a leading proponent of safe operation of concrete pumps through its certification program which provides an independent written assessment of the operator's knowledge regarding concrete pump safety. The video discusses company benefits of certification including reduced workplace accidents, improved performance and marketing advantages.

Operators can earn seven separate classifications of certification ranging from grout pumps to 50-meter plus boom pumps and placing booms. In order to become certified, operators must possess a valid driver's license and have the minimum experience required for each type of pumping equipment. The operator must also fulfill four hours of an ACPA safety training course.

"In the concrete construction industry, every contractor has a general obligation to perform due diligence in ensuring the competency of the personnel providing services, on the job," according to Christi Collins, ACPA executive director, "The "INSIST ON IT" video explains how the certification process enables contractors to assist their employees and customers in providing a safe job site."
