Made of ultra-high-performance concrete, this craft piece is comprised of intricate lace-shaped tiles hung from various suspensions to create a cohesive, unique curtain-like art installation. Doreen Westhal used a concrete mix made by G.tecz, Kassel, Germany—a product development company specializing in cement materials. The 1-mm steel cables used to suspend the tiles are cast-in, allowing either side of the curtain to be viewed. The 10 1/2x2 1/2-foot lace curtain weighs less than 18 pounds and was made in a studio before being hung onsite. Westhal says this artistic technique can be customized to any size, application, and atmosphere in order to create a truly unique product.
