Salt-water corrosion was a major concern for this residential project situated 10 feet above sea level. Lightweight concrete pavers form a walkway, with an etched texture for slip resistance. The pavers contain approximately 30% post-consumer recycled content with additional preconsumer recycled content. Many of the 20x20-inch pavers feature glass inlays, and messages such as, "Respect The Beach," "Don't Litter," and "Think Peace." Pavers were installed with synthetic grass grout lines. The same "grass grout" and a drainage system also were used to install 20-inch exterior tile in the backyard. An integrally colored monolithic concrete topping was installed on the exterior front walkway and stairs, front entry of the house and hallway leading through the kitchen and dining room, and outside to the back patio. The leading line of the concrete from exterior to interior, and back from interior to exterior was intentionally designed to promote the open indoor/outdoor southern California living the family desires.
