Every year, Concrete Décor Show Producer Bent Mikkelsen finds a nonprofit organization to receive a free makeover via contractors who signed up for pre-show workshops. The idea is to give participants hands-on experience with stamping, staining, carving, polishing, and other decorative projects that benefit the community for years to come.

This year’s recipient was The Julian Center in Indianapolis, a nationally recognized facility for victims of domestic violence. Over two intense days in late September, workshop students added paths, picnic tables, and a shelter to the organization’s playground; replaced a vinyl floor with polished concrete; and decorated a sidewalk to match artwork created by victims of domestic violence.

Conceptual design was by Amanda Conahan of San Diego-based T. B. Penick & Sons Inc.
