On the occasion of the 19th Olympic Games at Mexico City in 1968, 19 giant sculptures were erected along "The Road of Friendship," thanks to the vision of sculptor Mathias Goeritz. The 17-km road is part of the Outer Ring Road that circles Mexico city, and it borders on the Olympic Village. Artists from 16 countries were chosen because of their preference for working with concrete. Jacques Moeschal's Solar Disc and Herbert Bayer's The Articulated Wall are two examples.
